FLUX.1 [schnell] prompting guide

How to prompt FLUX.1 [schnell] on Artgen — prompt structure, example prompts, settings and what it can't do (no image editing).

FLUX.1 [schnell] is a text-to-image model developed by Black Forest Labs. On Artgen it creates new images from a prompt; it does not edit uploaded images. Model overview: FLUX.1 [schnell] on artgen.net.

Where to use it

Open Create (or any AI style tool), sign in, and choose FLUX.1 [schnell] in the Model menu. Check the credit cost shown before generating.

Prompt structure that works

Write it as one or two plain sentences, most important things first:

  1. Subject — who or what, with one or two concrete details
  2. Setting — where, time of day
  3. Light and mood — one light source works better than several
  4. Composition — close-up, wide shot, centered, from above

The style you pick on Artgen adds the style direction for you, so you don't need to repeat "in the style of an oil painting" in your prompt.

Example prompts

  • A red fox sitting in fresh snow at dawn, low golden light from the left, close-up, calm mood.
  • A small bakery storefront on a rainy street at night, warm window light, reflections on wet cobblestones, wide shot.
  • A ceramic teapot on a wooden table, soft window light, simple pale background, centered.

Tips

  • Be concrete. "An old fisherman mending a net" beats "a person working".
  • Keep the background simple if the subject must stay readable — especially for styles that are later turned into characters or dots.
  • Change one thing at a time between attempts so you can tell what helped.
  • Avoid long text in the image. If lettering matters, check the result carefully.
  • Need to edit a photo? Switch to FLUX.2 [klein] 4B, which supports image to image.

Canvas ratio

Choose a canvas ratio from the options shown for the selected model. The studio does not expose seed or step controls.
